A Tale of Second Chances and Hope
My first novel “Under the Circumstances” is the story of Millie Martin Stapleton, a country girl from Thompson County, Georgia, a fictional location. I was inspired to tell her story while standing by a grave in a cemetery in Kemp, Georgia, a real place.
I was told that the woman buried there had been a prostitute who came back to her hometown to die, suffering from tuberculosis and venereal disease. It seemed remarkable that the church folks had been willing to bury her in a spot easily viewed from a pew in the little Methodist Church.
I was saddened to think that this young woman’s life ended at age 27 so I decided to write what should have been her story, a tale of second chances and hope.
If you have had to persevere under difficult circumstances, you will find Millie’s story engaging and encouraging.
