My Story

I am 77 years old, and I am a writer.  The stories that come to me, whispered in the night and running through my head in the day, are the tales of resilient young Southern women who persevere against overwhelming odds.  I have two published novels, Under the Circumstances (2024) and Magdala (2025).  I have a third novel, The Girl in the Red Coat soon to be published  in 2026 and currently a story being told to me by a young nurse, named Ruth Dunn.

I write what I hear from my characters, never knowing where the story will go or especially where it will end.  Like my life, which started in 1948, there are ups and downs, successes and failures.

For one who didn’t really want to go to first grade, I have over time earned four degrees: bachelor of arts in English, law degree, masters of arts in political science, and bachelor of arts in music.

I have been a trial lawyer, a public-school teacher, and a piano teacher.  I have even been a politician, serving twelve years on the Bibb County Board of Education in Macon, Georgia.

I live on Jekyll Island, Georgia with my husband of forty-seven years and our two dog children.  Our human children are adults, as are our grandchildren.

I am a pianist and a singer, and enjoy the expression of these art forms as a church pianist and singer and as a member of a community choral group.

I currently serve on two boards of directors: Villas-by-the-Sea Condo Owners Association and Reubin Thompson Memorial Foundation, Inc.   I am always careful to manage my time and not commit to too many “extras.”  My imaginary characters require that.

Writing my books is an adventure.  I hope you will join the fun by reading one or ALL of them!
